I’m Grateful For… (Day 3-Hearing Aids)

They look like these, but blue! *picture was taken from google*

Since yesterday I was thankful for my sense of smell, today I’m thankful for my hearing aids.

Due to repetitive ear infections, vertigo, and other damage to my ears, I lost a lot of my hearing. I lost 80% in my right ear, and 50% in my left ear. I need hearing aids, and I got them about 2 1/2 weeks ago. It has been so, so, so, so, soooooooo amazing! I have heard so many beautiful things that I’ve never ever heard before (take flip-flops, WHO KNEW THEY MADE NOISE???) There are still some things I cannot even believe make noise.

I’m so thankful for this LIFE-CHANGING technology, and all of the people who have supported me in the process of getting these. I’m grateful for music, and now I know what my dance teachers mean when they say “feel the music”. I’m thankful for people’s voices, now that they don’t sound like they are muffled and underwater. I’m thankful for all of the wonderful little sounds that I’ve been rediscovering that make my life complete. Everything sounds so three-dimensional now!

Thanks for reading! Have you written a letter today?

Shine On!

  1. This is so beautiful!!! 💖 I’ve watched videos of deaf/hard-of-hearing people trying out their hearing aids (or cochlear implants) for the first time, and it ALWAYS makes me cry. I don’t realize how much of a blessing hearing is until I see people who don’t have it like I do.
Thank you for sharing your story!

  2. Wow, this is such a wonderful post! There are so many small things in life that we take for granted until we remind ourselves how much of a blessing they truly are. I am so happy for you, Eleanor, and thank you so much for inspiring all of us from this incredible experience. 🙂 Best wishes!
